Is underwire safe during breastfeeding?

Breastfeeding experts often recommend bras without underwire for the first 4-6 weeks of your breastfeeding, because milk ducts also lie underneath where the wire sits. A bra that is wire free, but still supportive, and has some stretch to accommodate your different sizes in the first month or so of nursing is often preferred for this period.

After 4-6 weeks, if a mother has had no problem with blocked milk ducts, then a well-fitted underwire bra is absolutely possible. Our underwire nursing bras have plastic wires or flexible wires, which are more flexible than those found in a regular, non-nursing bra, but which still give excellent support and separation.
